One of the greatest feelings in life is being truly comfortable with someone, and usually that sentiment is followed by a drop in physical activity. Call it science, call it human nature.
A study by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden recently concluded that, yes, marriage does in fact lead to a drop in “physical activity”, and that “divorce” in most cases led to an increase in physical activity. This makes sense when looking at the nature of relationships. The participants were vieing for love and a mate, thus worked hard to attract one. After the participants were married the need and desire to be attractive lessened due to the fact that participants felt “comfortable” and “unafraid” at losing a spouse due to physical appearance.
The best way to stay fit in a marriage, even when feeling comfortable with a spouse, is to choose activities that will encourage fitness between both partners. Here are a few activities that both partners might enjoy.
1. Go Running Together
Running together will help both partners to stay in shape while pushing each other to work harder. Running is also a way to bond and share common interests. Reaching physical goals is a major aspect of each partners life and experiencing them together is all part of the process.
2. Go Grocery Shopping
Often in relationships one partner or the other will do the shopping. When shopping together both partners are sharing in the responsibility of what’s being bought and consumed in the home.
3. Go Adventure
The best way to stay in shape is to go see the world. Taking adventure’s with one another builds your relationship while pushing each partner to do things that they wouldn’t sitting at home on the couch talking. A relationship is only as big as the world it has seen and experiencing the world together will surely create a stronger marriage and promote a life of healthy and sustainable living.
